3D Chess – PC Review

Chess the complex puzzle/ board game comes to PC with 3D Chess. We look at it to see how it recreates it for the digital form.

“A unique chess trip with exciting instant duels awaits you – test your mettle on the chessboard. Checkmate your opponent with only a few moves and solve challenging chess puzzles in amazing 3D worlds.”

Classic Chess at it simplest form.  A board, the pieces and a opponent if needed.   The visuals are good in 3d but sorry to say the controls are a bit stiff. When picking up a piece sometimes it does not work properly or you have to drop the piece and pick it up again to work.

It also has two separate modes for the chess lover to try:

  • Puzzle Mode
  • Chaos Mode

Puzzle Mode

If chess is your game expect a challenge with the puzzles. Within the turn frame find check, find checkmate or avoid check. Playing the easy puzzles will sharpen your game and the complex ones will break your brain.

You can also create your own for others to play – or play some steam workshop puzzles.

Chaos Mode

A mode where you have to win quickly and the lose conditions are different – the opponent only needs to check.  The AI Opponent will only move randomly so moving to take the queen and leaving a piece open is less harsh. The opponent may or may not take it.

One of the weirder modes to try if you know chess.

Not revolutionary but a good visual take on Chess. Few control issues but an OK Game.  At its current price point of 6.99, we will upgrade it to a 3/5 game.
