A Decade of French Fashion, 1929-1938 by Mary Carolyn Waldrep

1929 – 1938 is a decade in history that witnessed one of the most pivotal times in European History.  With the rise in Fascism, followed by the onset of war, just years after the economic depression and World War I, life in Europe was dramatic to say the least.

As a consequence fashion saw changes just as dramatic as the roaring twenties gave way to a period of careful consideration that was coupled with the need for people to feel life.

Paris and France of course are the pinnacle of fashion, even today.  A Decade of French Fashion, 1929-1938 by Mary Carolyn Waldrep discovers just how the events of the time impacted fashion with over 100 beautifully illustrated images.  See how ‘hemlines plummeted almost overnight and did not begin to rise until mid-decade.’

Elegance, opulence and soft flowing lines took over from the more angled look of the twenties.  Ladies fashion was filled with sophistication and incredible design.  All of this can be followed in Mary Carolyn Waldrep’s fantastic archive of stunning images.
