In the late 1700s the British government sent the first ships containing convicts to the now beautiful sandy shores of the beautiful Australia. Back then though Australia was not the dreamy location that we all think of it as today, in fact the convicts faced a number of problems, from a completely foreign climate and terrain, indigenous animals and diseases to name but a few.
Banished, from BBC Two, is a rather epic seven part series that follows the story of the first convicts shipped over to Australia for their crimes. Surviving was difficult with little food, illness being rife and the extremely strict regulations imposed by those sent to govern the criminals in this new, unknown land.
Starring MyAnna Buring (Downton Abbey), Julian Rhind-Tutt (The Hour) and Russell Tovey from Being Human, Banished is a thoughtful and honest look at how those who landed first were treated and what life was like for them. Buring and Rhind-Tutt who play Elizabeth Quinn and Tommy Barrett respectively have an illicit relationship and when the powers that be discover this it causes many problems, not just with Governor Phillip, (David Wenham) and Major Ross (Joseph Millson), but also between the trio of friends.
Banished arrives in dock on 20th April 2015 on DVD and Blu-Ray with a RRP of £20.42. The multi disc set includes a compelling behind the scenes look at the show and how it was filmed, along with cast and crew interviews!
