Behind The Name – Girl Meets Dress

Girl Meets Dress is an innovative and unique service, we caught up with Anna to find out more about it and her!

What inspired you to create Girl Meets Dress?

The Girl Meets Dress story began in 2009 when I was working as UK PR Manager for French Luxury brand Hermes – and like my previous roles in the fashion industry, it involved lending the collection of dresses and accessories out on a daily basis to fashion magazines, shoots, celebrities and journalists…I thought to myself “wouldn’t it be amazing if we could all borrow dresses for just one event, and wear a different designer for every event in our calendar?”

When my co-founder Xavier and I looked into the market we saw that no one was doing it. We were the first company to rent luxury fashion online and it is wonderful that Girl Meets Dress is now pioneering the way for rental as a new and exciting ecommerce category of its own.

Why do you feel picking the right dress for an occasion is so important?

Fashion changes so much and choosing the perfect dress for all of life’s special occasions is easy with Girl Meets Dress: a Ball, a Birthday party, a Romantic Date …a bright red maxi dress to one event, and a fringed black mini to the next – different crowd, different place, different you. The right dress can make or break your night. Now you never have to be seen in the same dress twice!

What tips and considerations can you share with our readers about picking the perfect dress?

Think about your shape and what will be suitable for your event. We have over 4,000 dresses available on the site so no matter what you’re looking for you’ll be sure to find the perfect dress. Use simple tricks can help emphasise what God gave you. If you’re an Apple shape Pick dresses that draw eyes to your top half, whilst Pear shapes should go for dresses with generous skirts like the Libelula Long Gee dress.

Do you have a favourite in the collection?  If so Why?

My current favourites for versatile party dresses to wear in the day and then straight out at night are Alice + Olivia and Rachel Zoe.

What is your favourite dress from history?

Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s Dress – arguably history’s most famous Little Black Dress!

How does Girl Meet Dress work?

We all have those pieces at the back of the wardrobe, bought for yet another wedding/party/job interview but then not worn more than once! Hiring a dress allows you to very easily wear more trend led, time-sensitive fashions, while continuing to invest only in those classic pieces which will stand the test of time. Our prices start from just £29 and you can try on a few dresses because we refund for anything unsuitable. We will deliver it to you and all you have to do is have fun in it and return it when you’re done. Returning the dresses is free and very easy.

What’s in your handbag?

I always keep lots of great products in my bag including Dr Organic skincare range – it’s fantastic for my hands. We run sample collaborations at Girl Meets Dress where our customers can enjoy a different beauty product in their order box each week and Dr Organic was one of these. I also have Rose & Co Cherry Kiss lip balm, Lipcote, and Rimmel London’s new BB cream which is perfect for touch ups when I’m leaving the office for an event.

Thank you to Anna for taking the time to chat to us.  Do you have a favourite dress?  What about one you have always wished you had?
