Misterwives have just released their Reflections Ep and we couldn’t be more excited about it, (specifically me, I love it). A mixture of captivating, catchy tunes that are alive with colour and truly exciting. Mandy Lee, (vocals), has an incredibly contemporary voice that sits comfortably alongside the likes of Ellie Goulding and Lorde with a hint to the amazing Cyndi Lauper. Etienne Bowler takes up the drums and provides the heartbeat of each song, whilst Will Hehir provides the bass line, bringing character and personality.
The entire EP showcases the range of talent held by Misterwives, taking us on a musical journey through contemporary pop, electro-pop, disco and more that stands shoulder to should with some of the best loved acts of the moment, but something about the thick atmosphere and energy of Reflections makes it so interesting, it is ahead of the game.
Now their début album has been released and the promises that Reflections made, have definitely been fulfilled by Our Own House. The title track is astounding an sets the tone for the rest of the album, it is one for your playlists and we thick it should be on repeat, (I may have done that myself for a few weeks).
The Misterwives have a cracking unique sound that is addictive in many ways, you find yourself singing alongm the melodies taking you with them, even if you don’t know the words! They are fresh, exciting, energetic and extremely talented.
It was an absolute pleasure and totally thrilling to get some time with Mandy from Misterwives to find out more about them and their inspirations.
Tell us how you all met and how the band came to be.
I’d like the story to be more interesting, like e-harmony or a Missed Connections ad on Craigslist but we all just met pretty randomly due to the fact that we live in New York and you’re bound to meet your soul mates since there are so many people living here. We met through restaurant jobs, mutual friends, former band mates and when we all got together to play our first rehearsal, it was love at first sight.
Where did the name MisterWives come from?
It’s a play on the term “Sister Wife”. Typically a man marries multiple women and they all become sisters/friends so we flipped the gender roles. I musically married all the dudes and they became my MisterWives.
Who are your musical heroes and why?
Since I could speak Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, and Stevie Nicks have been my holy trinity. I really gravitate towards strong chicks with a lot of soul. Their music, their lyrics, their vibes, and their voices are all very different but each so unique and so dang inspiring.
What has been the most exciting moment so far for MisterWives and why was it so special?
It’s currently the fourth day of our first headlining tour and it’s safe to say these have been the most outrageous, most amazing, most larger than life experiences we’ve ever had in our lives. I’m in awe of the type of energy these shows have had. Each crowd has screamed every single lyric and danced their asses off with us in venues we have dreamed about playing and it’s pretty hard determining what’s real life or a dream at this point.
Is there anyone in the business you would love to work with?
Hell yeah. We would love to work with (go big or go home) Mark Ronson, James Murphy, and Dave Grohl are the dream team!
What is next for MisterWives?
We are lucky enough to be on the road these next couple of months doing our first headlining tour having just released our first full length album and I’m not sure what else we could possibly hope for. I guess to just hit the repeat button and do it all over again!
Mandy, what’s in your handbag?
My phone, my makeup bag, dry shampoo and deodorant (it’s rough trying to stay fresh on the road when you don’t get to shower every day) Nexium (I have terrible acid reflux), gum, ricola, GSE (grape seed extract) and throat coat (gotta keep the throat nice and healthy)!
How do you feel about your début album? Do you have a favourite track? If so which one and why?
Asking what my favourite track is like asking a parent which child is their favourite! No can do, I love each and every song on this album with every fibre of my being and couldn’t be more proud of each tune that exists in Our Own House!!!!!!
