Mobile gaming has come a long way in recent years, as ios and android device improve in picture quality and handling, so do the games themselves. One such game is Celtic Heroes, an MMORPG, (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) that is 3D and takes place in a virtual world that is based heavily on Celtic mythology. Celtic Heroes is rather different though, because it is a mobile game!
As with most MMORPGs we begin our noble quest by designing our character. Considering we are using an iPad mini, there are a number of brilliant options for customisation which include, height, build, face, hair and of course the ultimate choice that faces any player at the start of RPGs – picking your character’s class. In Celtic Heroes there are five classes, each unique – Druid, Mage, Ranger, Rogue or Warrior. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, so pick wisely.
Once you have your character created you are in the game. The first few quests take you through the controls and finding your way, how to fight, interact and of course collect items. You meet interesting NPC (Non-Playable Characters) and other players who may or may not be on similar quests to you.
Once the initial quests are done you venture off into the virtual sunset and live the life of the character you have become, one forged with the desire to quest, fight and quest again.
Game play immerses you in the world and whilst we aren’t looking at next gen graphics or game play, there is no feeling that the game lacks depth. Celtic Heroes has an allure, that once you start it is hard to stop, what will the next quest uncover? Who will you meet? How much more can you level up your character?
We aren’t talking Skyrim (there are dragons though), but we are talking a fully functioning, exciting and intriguing game play that will keep you coming back for more. The controls, once introduced are quite intuitive, replacing a console controller with little thumb sticks in game and it is social, after all it is an MMORPG and there are plenty of opportunities to forge alliances and create new friendships with other players, but f you want to go it alone, that is okay too!
The best thing is that the game is free to play and download, although there are in-app purchases.
We at Erisea love the game from One Thumb Mobile and will keep playing it when we have the chance, with a dynamic 3D world based on Celtic folklore, engaging quests, loveable characters and epic battles, there is enough to keep the most hardened of gamers happy for hours.
