19th – 20th August
Good games with plenty of goals, it has been a good few days in the Championship.
Blackpool 1 – Brentford 2
Blackpool, a team that had to cancel a preseason tour due to lack of players, are looking better than they have. They took the lead and were looking good but Brentford managed to overturn them with quality of chances.
Bournemouth 1 – Nottingham Forest 2
This was a very strange game, No goals in the first half with Bournemouth having control and 11 corners to Forest’s 1. The second half led to a reshuffled Forest formation and it led to a more open game and Forest grabbing the points.
Birmingham 2 – Ipswich 2
This was a very scrappy game with both teams preferring not to show their hands and using long ball tactics to result in 30+ chances on goal between them. Ipswich had to equalize in injury time but will be really happy with the point.
Leeds 0 – Brighton 2
Yet another foreign signing arrived at Leeds before the game and Bellusci was on the bench today. Leeds are a team needing to develop “together” while Brighton show they are ones to watch this season with a clinical 2-0 win.
Norwich 3 – Blackburn 1
After 49 seconds – Blackburn scored. Grabban equalized after 23 minutes and 2 late goals sealed the win for Norwich. A good performance and a soon to be player Cameron Jerome was spotted in the stands.
Cardiff 1 – Wigan 0
Cardiff managed to score in this close fought game, chances and possession were equal and this win takes Cardiff up to second. Wigan meanwhile, can take good points from this as they kept up with Cardiff just couldn’t score.
Charlton 3 – Derby 2
Charlton are becoming the surprise of the season with these performances. Derby had hit back but a last minute penalty in the first half led to Charlton’s confidence been sky high.
Rotherham 0 – Watford 2
Two teams fighting battles at either end of the table. Rotherham look to be a bottom end team and did well against a team likely to gain promotion. The main talking point was Lloyd Dyer’s celebration – he went and shouted at his manager.
Sheffield Wednesday 1 – Millwall 1
Sheffield had the lead for the most of the game, with a last minute equaliser from Millwall leading to the points being shared.
Bolton 1 – Middlesbrough 2
A penalty led to the difference in this game. Bolton had chances but couldn’t connect with them.
Reading 1 – Huddersfield 2
The surprise of the day, Huddersfield surprised Reading with a gutsy performance. A 2-0 lead at half time, they managed to hold on to it.
Fulham 1 – Wolverhampton 2
Magath’s strategy is starting to not make sense, buying McCormack for a record fee – then playing him on the wing. Wolves must of loved that they came here when Fulham is at its low point.
Blackpool releasing 27 players and signing 17, they are still bedding in players but the signs are looking better for them. A bad performance from Blackburn with a 49 second goal – the quickest in a while couldn’t hold the lead. Fulham look to need a lot to to get up this year.
Good games but what can the Weekend hold?
