Some more alcohol ideas for people who love a tipple.

Desert Wine

We tried a dessert wine and got some lovely cheese to accompany it.

The wine was very sweet and it tasted great – it held its apricot and peach flavor well and definitely could taste the hints of honey and vanilla in it.  Perfect for a sweet fruit cake, cheese or other planned desserts.

The Cheese was Reblochon, a pungent tasty cheese which accompanied the wine well.  As long as the cheese can be stored properly – it is a good find.

So good – that later in the month – Recipes using the cheese will be talked about.

Details –

Stockist : £5.99 Tesco

“Intensely aromatic with flavours of white peach and apricot complemented by sweet notes of vanilla, honey and spice.”

Matched With a Cheese – Reblochon de Savoie AOC

Available: £3.00 Tesco, £4.60 Waitrose and also stocked in most independent cheese shops including Androuet and Une Normande à Londres.

“Semi-hard cow’s milk cheese from the Alps ideal for a cheeseboard and versatile in both sweet and savoury dishes. Reblochon is widely known for its use in tartiflette, but its floral, nutty and herbal flavours are a lovely match for a Christmas after-dinner plate. Serve Reblochon with a lively and fruity Savoie wine, a light red like Beaujolais, or after a meal with an aromatic dessert wine.”

Champagne

A tasty wine that’s gonna be ideal for Christmas parties and New Year. On offer too.  This was the standout champagne – it tasted better than the more expensive champagne that we tried.  It held it’s fizz well and the flavour tone underneath was well defined.

Champagne Jacquart Brut Mosaïc NV

Available  – £29.99 Tesco (Special offer: £19.99 from mid December – Dec 31st) or £36.00 Sainsbury’s (Special offer: £26.00 from November 19th til Dec 31st)

“A light, golden yellow colour with fine, long-lasting bubbles. The bouquet is lovely and fresh with fruity grape and pear hints mingling with intense notes of bread crust. Fresh and rather powerful on the palate creating a balanced overall impression with a lovely, long-lasting finish; spice bread and fruit flavours. A perfect start to your Christmas day!”

Wine Cooler

“The Husky HN5 Reflections countertop mini wine cooler is perfect for wine lovers who want to drink their favourite tipple, at the correct temperature, in the comfort of their own homes.”

It reflections theme is well shown off with its mirrored design.  It has a touchscreen interface – that we are still yet to figure out all the modes but that does not detract from a chiller – that does the job. It’s 16 bottle capacity at this time of year is ideal for those who like to stock up on wines over Christmas – (It took us 3 weeks to get to 8).

Something to stock drinks. Ideal for Christmas Season.

We soon managed to start filling it.  Good for those bigger families – as it not only can hold wine – any drink that needs chilling.  We use it for its main purpose of wine – with most of us being wine drinkers.

The fact that it has no compressor in its core mechanics means that the wine is kept well with no vibration and the low level of noise is good for the busy households.

Christmas stocking up – is always useful.
