Churchill is released on digital download on 9th October 2017 and on Blu-ray and DVD on October 16th, courtesy of Lionsgate Home Entertainment UK.
Set during the 4 days prior to the invasion of Normandy, during World War II in June of 1944, the film follows the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill as he finalises the plans for the biggest ever seen, sea to land invasion. A very intimate and personal portrayal of one of Great Britain’s most famous leaders, Churchill is a captivating and emotional film.
Churchill himself is played by Brian cox, in arguably, one of his most incredible performances date. Detailing the incredible burden that he felt, the weight of the world and literally millions of lives on his shoulders alone, Cox brings Churchill to life in this unapologetic look at his mistakes and triumphs, as he prepares to lead his great nation, once again in to a battle against the axis of evil.
Alongside Brian Cox are standout performances from Miranda Richardson, who plays the loyal and steadfast Clemmie Chruchill, Winston’s wife and John Slattery who stars as President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The cast is further compounded by incredible performances from Ella Purnell and James Purefoy, whose portrayal of King George VI is nothing less than fantastic.
From the moment that the film starts you are immersed in 1940s Britain and come face to face with the war tired, burdened Churchill. Unflinching and determined, you watch as the Prime Minister battles his own worries about the magnitude of what he is about to do, sending possibly hundreds of thousands of men to their deaths, whilst trying to ensure that mistakes are not made. The audience is also given an intimate look at not just the man himself, but the people around him, such as his wife and assistant, who are integral to his ability to lead this great nation during the most trying of times.
