In the town of Danebury there is a club, one that is fuelled by people with a passion, a passion that both excites and frustrates them on a daily basis, they are Detectorists.
Andy, (played by Mackenzie Crook from Pirates of The Caribbean) is a mature student of Archaeology who lives with his girlfriend, Becky (Rachel Strling). In his spare time Andy and his mate Lance, (played by Toby Jones from The Hunger Games) are Detectorists, a term that is used to people how partake in metal detecting. It has long since been their dream to not just find gold, every Detectorists fantasy, but to uncover the final resting place of a rather wealthy East Saxon King called King Saxred.
This new sitcom has deadpan hilarity down too a tee! Watching Andy and Lance navigate the minefield that is their personal lives, Andy with a girlfriend who doesn’t understand metal detecting and Lance with an ex-wife, Maggie (played by Lucy Benjamin from Eastenders), who along with her new boyfriend take terrible advantage of his good nature, is filled with a type of comedy rarely seen.
Besides their personal lives Andy and Lance, as members of The Danebury Metal Detecting Club, spend hours in muddy fields uncovering the wonders left behind by those who walked the path before them, which has led to Lance having a fine collection and extensive knowledge of ring pulls. It is in this pursuit that rivals in the field, (excuse the pun), try to push their way onto their turf, the over zealous Simon and Garfunkel look alikes, meet Sophie, a new addition to the Danebury Metal Detecting Club and embark on a journey that is simply charming and hilarious.
Detectorists is a story that will keep you entertained and unable to switch off as you join the unlikely pair and their friends on a turbulent and amusing journey into the world of metal detecting, it is a treasure not to be missed. Out on DVD from 10th November 2014, it is just £17.99.
