The incredibly popular grumpy doctor is back for another season in the long rnning drama Doc Martin. Back for its seventh outing on ITV the full series is now available on DVD courtesy of RLJ Entertainment’s Acorn Label.
Dr Martin Ellingham played by Martin Clunes (Men Behaving Badly) holds surgery in the sleepy village of Portwenn, Cornwall. His bedside manner though leaves a lot to be desired and the fact that the hamlet’s only GP has got a serious phobia to blood doesn’t really bode well for the patients of his practice.
In the hit seventh season we see Louisa, played by Caroline Catz (DCI Banks) return from visiting her mother in Spain, after deciding that the married couple needed a break. It is not all happiness and smiles though as Louisa returns to the family home and Doc Martin moves out on his own while they try to reconcile their differences. One of the ways in which the Doctor tries to win back the heart of his wife, is by agreeing to couples therapy with Dr Rachel Timoey, played by Emily Bevan (A Casual Vacancy).
During the eight episodes we also see the rest of Portwenn going about their daily lives, including Aunt Ruth (Dame Ellen Atkins – Cold Mountain) experiencing a health issue that must be addressed; Bert Large (Ian McNeice – Rome) tries to distance himself from an old business whilst his son Al, (Joe Absolom – Eastenders) tries his hand at setting up a new one; not to mention Buddy the stray dog.
Throughout the series Martin Clunes and the cast are joined by some incredible actors and actresses including Sigourney Weaver (Alien), Gemma Jones (Bridget Jones’s Diary), Caroline Quentin (Men Behaving Badly) and Daniel Ryan (Mount Pleasant).
