Easy Beauty Ideas to Try for Holiday Parties

We thought it would be nice to pick the brains of the fabulous Beth Margetts, professional make-up expert at The London MakeUp School, for tips and tricks when it comes to getting stunning results that are easy to achieve, this festive season.

Tip: Start with a great primer to give a smoother appearance to your skin and help the make-up last longer.

Product suggestion: We use Illamasqua Hydra Veil at the school for a radiant finish and apply with our flat foundation brush, the London MakeUp School Brush number 5.

image002Tip: Apply an illuminating cream or liquid on top of your normal foundation to sparkle the night away. The trick is to apply only to the area above your cheekbones, just under the eyebrow and pop on the inside of your eyes and avoid down the centre of the face.

Product suggestion: At the School we love Nars illuminator in Copacabana and use the small dual fibre brush, the London MakeUp brush number 25, to buff it gently in.

Tip: Keep the amount of foundation/shade the same as to what you would normally apply for a night out, but use a little more concealer dabbed in under the eyes to create a truly flawless made up look. Use an eye cream before make-up application.

Product suggestion: Bobbi Brown hydrating cream is perfect as it’s not too greasy to apply make-up afterwards.

Tip: Powder lightly using a domed powder brush with a loose translucent powder down your t-zone and under the eyes to keep that base in one place all night. Try not to apply to your cheekbones as it will matt down your gorgeous glow created from the illuminator.

Product suggestion: London MakeUp School brush number 1.

Tip: Give your eyes a modern take on the smokey eye effect and trade in black eye shadow for a bold metallic one; grey, purple, green, brown and blue all work well. Sweep over the eyelid area just up to the crease/socket line. Use one bold block of colour and apply with a fluffy blending brush. Use a long thin blender brush like ours to soften your crease, but try not to blend the shadow up, just out, into a cat eye/winged shape. Use small strokes and don’t let the eye shadow blend everywhere, and clean up any mistakes. Use a kohl pencil across the lash line top and bottom to define and complete that smokey feel.

Product suggestion:  London MakeUp School brush number 28 and number 16; Mac Smoulder kohl pencil.

Tip: For a simple and striking eye use a liquid eyeliner pen for on-the-go precision eye liner application. Go from office to the party with a fuss free liner pen that dries instantly. Start with the eyes open and draw a line going out from the bottom corner of your eye straight out, then simply peer down and draw the top line to meet the first one. You can draw the line with long dashes rather than drawing it out in one go. Keep the eye shadow underneath light and matt for a more dramatic finish.

Product suggestion:  At the school we use the Nars Stylo shade Carpates.

Tip: Go for a heavy, more dramatic mascara to finish off your party eye look and always apply two coats to thicken and define.

Product suggestion: We love the Mac In Extreme Dimension Lash mascara in extra black!

Tip: Make the new, dark, modern lip work for you and keep it matt. You can wear any colour, just keep the rest of your look simple to balance it out. Go for bold dark reds, browns or purples for a bold on-trend lip!

Tip: Use make-up setting and refreshing spray to hydrate and refresh any make-up look before or after application, and keep your look rocking all night!

Product suggestion: Mac Fix+

Tip: Leave the glitter in any form at home for a more sophisticated party make-up look bang on-trend!
