Green Man Gaming

Recently I have had the privilege to talk to Ben Bateman of Green Man Gaming. He was here to talk about the Green Man Gaming Service. I asked him some probing questions into the areas of Gaming and found his answers interesting.

Hello, Can you introduce yourself and tell me your role within Green Man Gaming?

Ben Bateman, Community Development Manager at Green Man Gaming & Playfire

Can you explain Green Man Gaming and Playfire for me?

Green Man Gaming is the world’s second biggest PC digital retailer whilst Playfire is our social game-tracking community.

As a lot of people who work in games tend to play games at the moment, what is your favourite Game on your service at the moment? And what did you enjoy about it?

Currently I’ve been braving the hazardous wastelands of Old Russia in the Destiny Beta. The Alpha and Beta have given gamers like myself the opportunity to peer through the window and take a gander at the mysterious universe Bungie have been slaving over to create. From first appearances, it’s clear to me they’ve put a lot of love and devotion into what’s probably their most ambitious project yet.

I think what strikes me the most about Destiny, is not how it makes subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) nods to the studio’s Halo heritage, but the way they seem to have successfully combined FPS and MMO into a silky smooth and addictive package. They could have easily messed up the controls or over complicated the menus, but they’ve shown that it’s possible to build a game that blends fast-paced action with a more relaxed, open-ended and tantalising narrative.

The Destiny university has so much potential, so I can’t wait to pick up the full release and explore it when it hits stores later this year.

Looking at your site it is very E-Commerce and similar to Steam. Why should I choose your service over Steam?

Our core mission has always been to offer gamers more than just a sale. We know gamers are passionate about their games, no matter what platform that they play them on. Our service allows gamers to buy games across a range of platforms which makes us quite different to Steam.

As well as over 5,000 titles from AAA to Indie, we offer the chance to earn Green Man Gaming Credit for being active on our site like making purchases, writing game reviews, referring friends, and trading in digital games. Users taking part in the Playfire Rewards BETA program are also credited for playing games linked to their account.

This credit can be used towards anything on the Green Man Gaming site.

Our range of games and download options, plus the chance to earn credit which reduces the cost of gaming means more and more people are choosing to shop with us.

You talk about Playfire Rewards, I assume you are involved in both areas given your job title.

Why does Green Man Gaming have a partnership with Playfire? What does that do to benefit your company?

With Playfire, we’re helping users to buy more games and content through Playfire Rewards. We reward positive game play, which encourages gamers across the world to not just purchase games, but to play more of the games they love or discover new games. We track their data and benefit from learning more about their gaming habits and style as they play. We can then use this knowledge to target users with more relevant offers based on the way they play games; there is a value exchange that benefits both the user and Green Man Gaming.

I noticed on your site it says it has”close personal relationships” with the publishers – What is the level of closeness that you provide?

We are incredibly proud to be a business trading and working officially with the world’s greatest publishers, from the largest such as Bethesda, Take 2, Codemasters, SEGA and many more, to the smallest indie studios and developers.

We have a direct contract as an official retail partner with every publisher/developer that has a game listed on Green Man Gaming which is over 350 partners globally, and this is down to the relationships and reputation we have.

It is good to hear that you are looking at the bigger picture rather than churning out game after game. Which leads me to my next question.

A big issue with PC Games is Quality Control. If I download a game what are the insurances you provide that it will work?

It’s important to us that our customers trust us to provide them with official, publisher-endorsed games at competitive prices. Being official means that our customers have the reassurance that our dedicated Customer Service team can sort out any issues they might have directly with the publisher, that purchased games will work, and importantly that the correct version of a game will activate in a customer’s region as it is supplied by direct from the publisher. Many of our team are core gamers. We try to provide a service that we ourselves would want and quality control is a huge part of that.

I have to say I did not expect an answer to the last question, but I am happy that Green Man Gaming provide that support for if it does go wrong.

I would like to say thank you to the team at Green Man Gaming for giving me the opportunity to talk to them about their Site and to show the World PC Gaming does not have to revolve around Steam.

  1. I got this web site from my pal who shared with me concerning this web
site and now this time I am browsing this site and reading
very informative articles at this place.

  2. I think the admin of this website is genuinely working hard in favor of his web site, as here every data
    is quality based stuff.

  3. I’m not sure why but this weblog is loading very slow for me.
Is anyone else having this problem or is it a issue on my
end? I’ll check back later and see if the problem still exists.

  4. I have seen a lot of useful things on your web-site about computers. However, I have the opinion that netbooks are still less than powerful enough to be a sensible choice if you normally do tasks that require a lot of power, just like video enhancing. But for website surfing, microsoft word processing, and the majority of other popular computer functions they are fine, provided you do not mind the screen size. Many thanks sharing your ideas.

  5. I’ve learned newer and more effective things through your blog. One other thing I’d prefer to say is that often newer computer os’s often allow much more memory to be utilized, but they likewise demand more memory space simply to work. If your computer cannot handle far more memory and the newest software package requires that memory increase, it could be the time to buy a new Computer. Thanks

  6. I have learned some new issues from your internet site about pc’s. Another thing I’ve always believed is that laptop computers have become something that each residence must have for many people reasons. They provide convenient ways in which to organize the home, pay bills, go shopping, study, pay attention to music and even watch tv shows. An innovative way to complete these types of tasks is a laptop. These desktops are portable ones, small, strong and easily transportable.
