Having the chance to talk to someone who releases music that fills rooms with a “soulful” pop? Dam right we took it. We talk to JoAnna about her music and her passions. It might only be 5 minutes, but a lot can be said in 5 minutes.
Hi, please introduce your music to our audience.
Original, Raw, simple, soothing and soulful
We get the soul portion for sure. What is better – the feeling of the live crowd or that feeling of creating the perfect song?
I’d say performing that perfect song for the live crowd…. It gives me a sense of connection and accomplishment knowing that I’ve been able to tell a story of something I have gone through and feeling that there are people in the crowd that have felt that way too.
Ah, you got us there. Bands come and go but their sound can be what we remember in the years to come. What is the live act you listened to and what did you enjoy about it?
I saw a local Portland, Oregon act Marv Ellis & We Tribe at the Doug Fir Lounge… I loved this show because it reminded me of the raw and local talent that the Pacific Northwest has to offer… Which is truly what inspires so much of what I do.
Bringing it back to your work. What is that one song we should look out for?
“Drinking by Myself” is probably my favourite song off the album… I wrote it at a very vulnerable and heart felt moment in my life… And every time I hear it , it reminds me that I am a strong women and can overcome any sadness or heartache that I am faced with in my life.

That is a highlight for us as well. Final question before we let you go. What would you tell your ten year old self if you could?
I would tell myself not to try and grow up so fast…. I really feel that I was always trying to experience everything to quick and to soon without really enjoying the simplicity of just being a kid without the burden of worry.
Thank you for your time. Good luck on the journey you are on.
Every once and a while we get to talk to a individual that might not be known – that should be for their craft and their art. “JoAnna” – might feel like a typo but it is not, its the name she goes by and we hope she has every success.
