Is The Sun Ageing Your Face?

A report in 2012 found that 70% of sun protection consumers use the same protection on their face and body, meaning that the face isn’t being given specialist attention, like it deserves.  The same report also proclaimed that 80% of premature skin ageing is actually due to being exposed to UVA and UVB rays and with only 3% of the money spent on sun protection, being for facial products, it is something that should be looked at a little closer.

By reducing the amount of exposure our skin has to the sun and it’s harmful rays, we are not only minimising the effect of those rays on premature ageing, but protecting against things like skin cancer. Our bodies need a different type of protection to our faces though, since much of our skin can be covered up and is less directly impacted on by the sun, but the face is more susceptible to damage.

La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Dermtologique is one of the leading names in skincare.  This year they have developed a range of skincare just for the face, Anthelios XL which has up to twice the European recommended protection for sun care products and for ease they are separated into four categories, Ultra Light, Anti-Shine, Comfort and Compact Cream.

LRP3Each of the products have a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) at 50+, meaning the face is well protected from the UVA and UVB rays.  They are formulated with:

  • Uniform filter distribution at the skin’s surface for optimal protection
  • Excellent filter stability for lasting protection
  • Ultra water resistant
  • hypo-allergenic, fragrance-free and no paraben

Of course everyone is different and have different needs from their skin protection, there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ solution, this is where La Roche-Posay have caught the attention of the skincare industry, by creating a selection of facial sun protection products that cater for a wide range of skin types.

This formula gives the consistency of an almost weightless feeling on the skin, that is quickly absorbed and leaves skin protected against both UVA and UVB with a Sun Protection Factor of 50+.  This is perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to have the sensation of a cream on their face.  It leaves no residue or white marks and glides on effortlessly.

Compact Cream

An innovative idea is to place the SPF of 50+ inside a make up product that is applied almost daily.  The Compact Cream does just that and smooths the skin texture, leaving it even and tinted in either Sand or Beige Gold.

This selection from La Roche-Posay has a mattifying effect on the skin, which is just what is needed if you suffer with oily skin.  The dry touch gel formula means that it is quickly absorbed and leaves the skin dry in seconds with no residue left behind.

Comfort comes in the for of a cream that holds all of the benefit of SPF 50+ and is easy to apply with a quick absorption rate and again leaves no residue behind.

All of the products are suitable for sensitive skin and even, in some cases for those who have a sun intolerance.  La Roche-Posay are forward thinking in facial sun care protection and can help combat the damage that the sun can cause, helping prevent premature ageing.
