Protect Yourself – Suncare for Spots

0

Hate missed spots when applying sunscreen products, but also worried you are not fully protected and too shy to ask a stranger to ‘do my back’?

Dr Michael Isaacman, Ph.D and Dr Steve Isaacman, Ph.D two brothers from the USA who are both Scientists and Doctors have developed PHD Skincare, including a pioneering new sunscreen that is applied with their revolutionary and patented Never Miss a Spot™ wand technology, the smartest way to deliver the products you need to all those hard to reach places, like your back and legs with ease.

Scientific researchers, the brothers are funded by the National Cancer Institute, (the only lab in the USA to receive such funding) the National Institute of Health, the Avon Foundation for Women, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, and the New York State Centre for Advanced Technology. So they certainly know their stuff!

With the shocking news that one in four young people in the UK still do not wear sun protection while out in the sun, the two PHD brothers give us the low down on why it is so important to keep your skin protected from the sun’s harmful rays and deliver some home truths about how using a low SPF can actually be doing more harm than good.

The sun will age you

“Exposure to UV radiation from the sun causes up to 90% of wrinkles and sunscreen is the only approved way to help block those harmful rays.

When UV rays hit our skin, harmful free radicals are produced that can cause oxidative damage, and wrinkles! Sunscreens are loaded with proprietary anti-oxidant complexes that help sweep up harmful radicals to boost protection.

Our SPF 50 sunscreen blocks up to 98% of harmful UV radiation. Our formula is water resistant for up to 80 minutes of swimming or sweating. The PHD sunscreen protects from UVA and UVB radiation, both are incredibly harmful to skin. Developed in laboratories and using natural derivatives of vitamins A, C and E to help boost protections from harmful free radicals.”

It can cause skin cancer

“Your tan may look great while it lasts for those few weeks after your holiday abroad, but skin cancer caused by melanomas may require surgery which could lead to scaring, or worse, it could make you incredibly ill by spreading and causing other cancerous tumours in your body leading to chemotherapy and can even be fatal (and no one will be admiring your tan while you are six feet under).

In 2012 there were 2,148 deaths in the UK from malignant melanomas, so it is always better to stay safe.”

Avoiding high factor SPFs because you don’t think you will tan

“The overly scented body oil with SPF15 may look appealing, smell great and you think you are protected, but by using a very low factor cream will only damage your skin and increase your risk of skin cancer.

You will still get a tan by using a high SPF, it will just take a little longer before you start to notice it. High factor creams cuts your chances of getting sunburnt which means you will be able to spend more time in the sun safely for years to come without worrying about the different areas of your body that have sunburned in the past.

Also, high factor sun creams mean you can benefit from the infra red rays that give us warmth and do not damage us, while being protected for longer from the damaging UVB and UVA rays!”

Cheap sun screen will not protect you

“It is easy to think that any old SPF will do the trick, but unfortunately this isn’t true. You do not need to go for the most expensive sun screen on the shelf, but the cheapest version could be a serious mistake.

You need to be protected from both the UVA and UVB rays which some of the cheaper creams do not do. As well as choosing a high SPF rating, always look for a four star UVA rating too.”

Cloud cover does not stop the sun’s rays

“The British are notorious for not thinking about the suns damage on a cloudy day as they are not feeling the warmth of the sun on their skin. However, UV rays can still filter through the clouds and it is these rays that are dangerous to the skin.It is always important to protect your skin if it is exposed, no matter what the weather!”
