2D Racers maybe a thing of the past, but we look at the latest PC racing game in Race Online.
“Race Online is the ultimate top down racing game with a strong retro feeling and a super smooth gameplay. It is a fresh and evolved racing experience that seamlessly combines all the best parts from the good old racing games to the most recent technologies and game mechanics.”
Think of your average racing game in a 2D environment, you be thinking of mobile games and the simplistic controls and features. But they turn it up a notch – it features:
- Over 100 diverse tracks
- Online multiplayer up to 10 players
- Local multiplayer up to 6 players
- Extensive single player
- Easy to use track editor
- Steam Workshop support
- Choose from six different vehicles
- Multiple game modes
So, controls. Actually good, they really did polish them up and make the car handling work. It builds upon the premise of what type of track you are on and develops as you go. Too fast – you for sure are coming off. Don’t believe me – Here are the first few attempts.
First Attempts (non-mic gameplay)
The game plays out well over singleplayer and multiplayer. During the Career mode it adds an extra depth with the unlocks. You have to play hard and finish quick to get more and more cars. Top unlock a UFO to drive?? Weird.
Career Mode First Cup – Non-Mic Video
We could say more but its one that needs to be played. Like retro racers – dam you got to play this. Good racing with a simplistic nature but with that Editor – you can create the world. With its current (at time of writing) price of 8.99 – we upgrade it to a 4/5.
