The former TV star has been stripped of his honours bestowed upon him by Her Majesty the Queen and sentenced to five years and nine months for abusing his position as a children’s entertainer and indecently assaulting young girls.
The court told Mr Harris that he had no one to blame but himself as he sat stoically whilst sentence was passed. Mr Justice Sweeney spoke of how Harris had shown no remorse throughout the trial for his crimes.
The Attorney General’s Office has been asked to reconsider the sentence as too lenient. It is a question that requires answering, why is it such a short sentence when he committed crimes against children?
Surely it is the responsibility as adults, to ensure that children are well protected and safe. Should the occasion arise where this safety is compromised then it falls upon the leaders of our country to ensure the perpetrators of such terrible acts are suitably punished.
