Single Review – “WinterSkin” by New Portals

We love music and as we start to relook at it, we start with “WinterSkin” by New Portals.

Throughout 2016, New Portals are making waves with the amount of support they are getting from big brands.  Radio 1 DJs Phil Taggart and Huw Stephens have loved their music and they even get played in Shops. Shops include Starbucks, H&M, Co-Op and MAC Cosmetics. They have also received high profile support from the likes of The Guardian, Line Of Best Fit, Missguided, Pretty 52, 1883 and many more besides.

The band have just returned from a mini-tour of three shows in New York, where they played intimate gigs across Manhattan and Brooklyn in galleries and magical rooftop settings.

While they wrap up the year with a fiery statement on ‘WinterSkin’, the band are looking forward to some very exciting prospects in 2017 on both sides of the Atlantic.

“One of the finest R&B-tinged male-female duos we’ve heard since Aluna George”The Guardian

“[New Portals] tracks should definitely be on your weekend playlist” – Missguided

“They’re certainly ones to watch”Pretty 52

“Ireland’s hottest new artists” – 1883

The Song – WinterSkin

The single finds the pair evoking seasonal chills, with big rolling synths and dark bass rumbles alongside icy key chimes.

The new single tops a year that has seen a string of stunning songs from New Portals, including ‘Cage’, ‘Stay Here Tonight’, ‘Groove Boy’ and ‘Skyline’. The tracks have seen the band become one of the most promising and highly acclaimed new acts to come from Ireland today.

Thoughts on Track

Its begins very mysterious but hooks you in straight away.  The female voice brings you through the track with its terrific tone accompanying by a suitable mystery beat of bass and synths.

Mystery brings you in but the music keeps you.
