Please introduce yourself and Ecco to our readers.
Born and raised in the south of Denmark –goes for both ECCO and me. I started at ECCO as an apprentice at the age of 16 and as for ECCO, shoe making is my passion. Today I am the heading up ECCO Concept Lab where we design products to ladies, men’s and outdoor.
What made you decide to design footwear?
It was a natural choice for me. Shoemaking runs deep in my family. My great-grandfather was a shoemaker who had his own factory and shop. My grandfather designed shoes, and my father also made a living as a shoemaker. Shoemaking is my greatest passion.
What is your focus for the SS15 collection?
The effortless style is a look that I find as the right trendy look for spring summer 2015. It is a sport casual inspired universe without embellishments. It’s a shoe trend with low- and high top sneakers in rich leather and nubuck materials. The colour scale includes soft pastels, beiges and browns. It is super functional and wearable trend.
How do you think leather fits into this seasons trends?
We see a tendency that people are seeking the natural choice. Leather is one of the most natural materials to work with. It is not only a trend in the SS15 season, but also a natural choice for me to work with. The SS15 season also embraces the look of a causal style. When we work with leathers we are able to enhance the softness and the richness that leathers has to offer. Leathers items are without a doubt an IN item this season.
Do you have a favourite piece from the range?
One of my favourite styles from SS15 is the Tabora. It is designed with a thick, white wedge sole with pastel-hued and metallic leather straps. It is toned down yet dynamic, and for me it embodies the carefree and relaxed vibe in the spring/summer 2015 collection. And to your other question- it embraces the leather trend and the soft natural look.
What are you currently working on?
I am working on a sneaker concept called Soft 7, which I am really excited about. It is a Scandinavian design take on the urban sneaker, combining super soft leathers, great fit and comfort.
If you could design a pair of shoes for anyone, who would it be and why? Also tell us about the design!
I design for real women. I try to think of inspiring women when I am sitting at the drawing table. It can be my girlfriend, the cool girls riding their bike through Copenhagen or businesswomen in Hong Kong. For me it is important to create something that fits into her life, and is functional as well as beautiful. Depending on what she is doing and where she is going, it can be a sneaker, a ballerina or maybe a high heel bootie. A shoe that you can dress up and down.
What are your favourite shoes like and why? (Some sneaker shoes. Dress up/down)
If I have to pick one pair of women’s shoes for this season, I would have to say a dress sneaker. My favourite is ECCO Damara. It is Effortless and casual with a simplistic Scandinavian design, soft nubuck and leather laces. It teams well with tailored pieces in pastes hues, natural materials like cottons and silk –perfect to dress up or down.
What is in your handbag? (we ask everyone this)
Well, I do not really have a handbag. I have a tote shopper. In this I carry a lot of paper with sketches, magazines, and of course my computer. Some would might say I carry too many papers around, I would say that it is my essentials. And, you might also find some Danish liquorish –it is a guilty pleasure of mine.
