The Not So Cheeky Chappy

There is no escaping the fact that Autumn is practically here and that means the onset of, (more), rain, wind and cold weather.  Many people love this time of year, the hot chocolates, warm fires, duvet days, pyjamas and big fluffy slippers, but our skin doesn’t, in fact our skin dreads it, especially our lips.

Marig Chapped Lips

Because the lips do not have any oil glands it means they can dry out very easily.  There are a number of ways this can happen in any season, but the exposure to the less clement weather conditions of Autumn and Winter, can be a big cause.

There are a few things that can be done to combat this horrible and frustrating dryness and in some cases help to prevent it occurring in the first place.

When the lips become chapped and sore our first reaction is to try and give them instant moisture by way of licking those smackers.  This could not be a bigger mistake, instead of providing moisture to the lips, it dries them out even more.  It is hard though, because it is almost a subconscious action to lick your lips when they feel dry and cracked.

Increasing the humidity in your home can go a long way to helping combat chapped lips.  Using a humidifier will aid the air around you, making it more moist and therefore less drying on your mouth.

A favourite of ours is to keep those lips covered up in the colder weather.  Use a scarf, we love them, they keep you snuggly and help to reduce the friction and drying effect of the wind on your face, there by protecting your kissers.

Chelseas lipsOur best suggestion though for the perfect, protected, plump, pouters is to use a lip balm or an ointment.

Whilst using a lovely balm or chap stick is great and there are a lot of amazing products to chose from, we have come across a little tube of wonder to pop into your handbag or pocket.

Lanolips products are made from a substance called Lanolin.  This is a yellow waxy substance that is secreted by animals who have wool, much like the natural oils that our own hair produces to keep it in good condition.  Lanolin is removed along with the wool and extracted to be used in a variety of ways, including in beauty products.  The Pure Medical Grade Lanolin has been through an extensive refining process to remove impurities and the scent.  It is this lanolin, in it’s purest form, that is used by Lanolips in their products.

But why?  Because lanolin is natural it it hypo-allergenic, odour free, colour free and has no additives.  It is so pure that it is safe to be used on new born babies mouths and on open wounds.

The benefit of using lanolin in lip products, is that is can hold up to 200% of its weight in moisture, keeping them hydrated and at the same time protected from the elements.  So a lip product that is made with lanolin as its prime ingredient is perfect for combating the winter battleground of chapped lips.

Lanolips 101 Ointment is just the ticket for doing just this, in addition to the benefits outlined above it is animal cruelty free, non-irritating, vegetarian friendly and it’s sumptuous melt to the touch formula feels luxurious and nourishing when applied.
