“My dad died twice. Once when he was thirty nine and again four years later when he was twelve.
The first time had nothing to do with me. The second time definitely did, but I would never even have been there if it hadn’t been for his ‘time machine’…”
Al Chaudhury has lost his dad, so naturally when he discovers his father’s time machine he makes the obvious decision to travel back to the 1980s and save him, but this in itself is not simple, it will require an awful lot of Al. Oh and of course he will be taking his hamster with him!
Whilst he will have to utilise his imagination and have the bravery to go forwards, he soon finds that it may require a little lying, theft and a touch of burglary. The internal monologue of Al guides you through his journey and is packed full of things that will just make you smile, it is touching and hilarious! It is not a smooth sailing story though, full of warm hearted wonder, no it is instead a completely unpredictable ride through time that lands Al in plenty of trouble.
A cute hamster and time travel would of course make for an exciting and often emotional offering from Ross Welford. Beautifully written and with just the right amount of humour, suspense and excitement, makes for an incredible offering, watching a young boy in a search to save his father’s life.
A book to be loved from page one, by all who read.
