If you hadn’t been made aware yet H1Z1 has divided into 2 games – H1Z1 Just Survive and H1Z1 King of the Kill. Whever you believe that to be good or bad – new focus will be brought into the games over the time before full release.
They have said:
“Since its release last year on Steam Early Access, we’ve had more than 2.5 million downloads of H1Z1 and rank as the number four top selling game on Steam of 2015 releases,” said Laura Naviaux, Chief Publishing Officer of Daybreak Games. “We launched H1Z1 as an Early Access title to allow the player community to help shape our development. Over the course of development, we discovered it had evolved into two unique gaming experiences, appealing to two distinct communities. Fostering lasting communities is the bedrock of our organization, and by allowing these worlds to exist independently and grow in their own distinguished ways, we can better deliver on a consistent vision and clear roadmap for each game toward official release and beyond.” – from the press release.
What should you expect
Both games will continue to work under the H1Z1 Banner and their universe. Both games will now be developed with different dedicated teams within Daybreak games. The first game out of early access will be King of the Kill due to high player counts compared to Just Survive. (This does not mean Just Survive will be dropped). They plan to re-focus Just Survive to be that open-world survival experience they are after.
H1Z1 Just Survive
In H1Z1: Just Survive, the H1Z1 zombie virus has crippled civilization. Corrupted by the need to survive, gone are the comforts of society as a new normal permeates the world. You are one of the last remaining humans. Every choice matters, every moment is borrowed time and every breath could be your last. If you don’t want to join the dead – or the undead – you’ll have to be cutthroat, resourceful and alert at all times. Scavenge, craft and build to protect yourself from zombies, roaming beasts and perhaps the deadliest threat of all – fellow humans. Do you have what it takes to Just Survive?
What they have said:
“H1Z1: Just Survive development will remain focused on creating an open-world survival experience. We are working on creating a world that’s immersive, that captures the mindset of the last remaining humans trying to survive a post-apocalyptic zombie-filled wasteland – what does it feel like to be forced to scavenge for resources, to have to construct shelters to live, to aid or hinder the last remnants of human civilization? It’s a richer gameplay experience and we want to make sure we do it justice.”
With King of the Kill hitting the headlines with its Battle Royale mode – this game will have to etch out its own identity while remaining under the H1Z1 Banner. It will likely need to hit a single player story to keep an audience in. Which maybe why they are taking longer to build it. Think a Walking Dead scenario but with a different story or bigger story with connections to other servers with different story arcs.
How about separate roleplay servers where if they close the server or restart it – the pace of zombies increases. Once the players are dead a server restart (new story arc is done). Think of how Reality TV Shows have different contestants each year.
But that is just dream scenarios.. mmmm… imagine.
H1Z1 King of the Kill
H1Z1: King of the Kill is a large-scale, fight-to-the-death shooter where every second counts. Drop into the high-intensity, arena-style grudge match and activate your inner beast mode. Gear up fast, throw together a game plan and see if you have what it takes to be the last man standing. Rack up a kill streak, or just add to the chaos – this is a spectacle, and only one can be King of the Kill. #DyingIsForLosers
What they have said:
“H1Z1: King of the Kill is all about the spectacle,” said Jens Andersen, Executive Creative Director of Daybreak Games. “All of the game modes will feature unique gameplay elements that invite prowess, chaos, glory, and a little bit of ridiculousness all into one fight. The next game mode we introduce will make vehicles an important part of the exhibition, adding another layer of energy and turbulence to the mix as players have to move rapidly to different areas of the map in order to stay alive.”
This game has hit the headlines more with its high impact on the twitch community. So expect this to be developed to full release along the same lines. Hopefully more of the bugs will be taken out but time is short as it hits full release this summer.
