There is no hiding the fact that winter is officially around the corner, Autumn is here and even with promises of a late Indian summer being made, we all know that the cold will soon be here, in the iconic words of Ned Stark, ‘Winter Is Coming’.
What does that mean for our skin though? It means we need to take steps to look after it a different way to during the winter months, to the sun creams and after suns of the summer.
Here are a few tips from the Erisea Beauty Team to help winter proof your skin:
- You need to think about changing your moisturiser. During the spring and summer months skin reacts differently to when it is faced with the harsh, cold weather of winter. The face is regularly battered by cold winds, rain, snow and the frigid cold air. To try and combat the effects of this look for a moisturiser that has an oil base. Oil based moisturisers will leave a protective layer on the skin, helping to retain moisture.
- Wear gloves. It sounds simple enough but it is very important. The skin on your hands is much thinner than the rest of your body and therefore needs a little extra care and attention. Keeping hands moisturised and warm during the winter months is imperative if you want to avoid sore, cracked and dry skin.
- Central heating is not your friend during winter. Whilst the warmth and snuggly feeling that you get from radiators warming the house, they also dry out the air. This means that there is less moisture about and in turn will help to dry out your skin. Not good. An easy solution is to get a little humidifier or even easier is to pop a little dish of water on the radiator, you can even add a lovely essential oil to freshen the room!
Aside from the above there are plenty of lotions and potions about that can help you during winter months. It is a good idea to invest in something that will work all over your body, then you can pop it in your handbag and keep it with you at all times.
A good choice is Mary Elizabeth’s Spearmint ad Tea Tree Balm, it is good for lips, heels, hands, elbows and well, anywhere you need a little bit of a helping hand. It is packed full of goodness using shea butter and the vitamin enriched oils of tea tree and spearmint.
The Spearmint and Tea Tree Balm smells amazing, like a packet of really sweet mints, it literally makes your mouth water as you inhale. The balm itself is solid and the heat from your fingers melts the top layer and you rub it, allowing you to apply it to the area that needs a little love. Soothing, nourishing and beautifully silky, this balm is just the ticket when it comes to winter proofing the skin this year!
