Week 3 we come to the letter C. As before, main rule of this is to try something we have never listened to before, preferably something new but no proviso on time.  Official Links will be at the bottom of each article with interesting thoughts on each as we go.

Cage The Elephant

Next up “C”.  We could have picked Catfish and the Bottlemen, Coldplay, Childish Gambino, Chvrches or Carli B. But, as with this series it is about trying new things, we never have listened to so we picked Cage the Elephant.

About

Cage The Elephant is a band originally from Kentucky, USA. The band currently has Matt Shultz (vocalist), Brad Shultz (rhythm guitarist), Nick Bockrath (Lead Guitarist), Jared Champion (Drummer) and Matthan Minster (Guitarist and Keyboardist). Formed in 2006 but moved to UK in 2008, they have lniks on both sides of the pond.

In 2008, they appeared as supporting act for The Pigeon Detectives and in 2009 for Silversun Pickups and Manchester Orchestra.

Lots of hits and lots of action since then to now, Social Cues is their latest album (2019) hitting good ratings from everyone from NME to The New York Times.

Songs to look out for

Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked – We have actually heard this song in passing but did not realise it was them.  Main lyric is catchy and the guitar rhythm holds us on it.

Social Cues – Good indie rock song. Good beat with good change-ups as it goes.

Come A Little Closer – More low-key and shows different aspects of their sound.  Another catchy Lyric too.

Overall

Got to have a good indie band to ebb and flow the night away somedays.   A well developed sound over the years which has a few surprises in there.
