One of our staff has updated their Computer due to the age and slowness of their old PC.  He has written a brief article on his journey on getting a new PC and what advice he would give.

The journey to get a new PC is all about the research and the amount of time until we needed to get one.  Having had the experience of buying several PCs, we have a few points to mention.

Mainstream Stores

We did not really consider mainstream stores due to a variety of issues. Mainstream stores and Supermarkets may offer PCs and Laptops, but they are not always the best value for what you need.  They will have a pre-ranged deal with several manufacturers with a small section of PCs available.  Looking at their online ranges, they offer for the most part outdated Intel and AMD based PCs. This means your “Store Bought PC” will slow down and degrade in quality quicker than a more updated model.

Custom Manufacturers

Having a good experience last time we used a Custom Manufacturers, we did our research in the current marketplace. Custom Manufacturers have found a place in the market as they offer a better range of components to build a PC to your specifications.   The best advice we can give when it comes to Custom Manufacturers is to do your research and pick the best one for your budget.

We got our latest PC from PCSpecialist (can be found at pcspecialist.co.uk). A UK Manufacturer of performance custom computers and laptops. They offer customisation to configure your perfect PC or laptop with an “advanced configurator”.

We put research into our purchases. PC Specialist has some good reviews on Trustpilot with an average 4.6 out of 5 rating.  We researched further into the good and bad points of the company and picked out the perfect PC for us. For our situation a Next Day PC was needed, and we waited for a suitable PC to be on offer.

Build It Yourself

We do not have the ability to build it ourselves unfortunately.  If you are a PC enthusiast and have the confidence to build your own – GO FOR IT.  Make sure to understand the risks and costs to this endeavour.

Our Final Thoughts

Everyone’s situation is different and picking that ideal PC is important (especially if you rely on it like us).   With any type of high value purchase, it is important to do your research to make sure you are getting value for money.

Our main warning – At this time, with the limited precious metal situation causing issues with new electronic parts be careful when ordering PREORDER ONLY PARTS. There could be a big delay in time.

For More Info

For this article, we had a quick look around the Amazon, Currys and Argos online sites to look at the make and model of their PC ranges.  At time of writing, most Desktop/Laptops were on out-dated chipsets and would not offer good quality for what we were after.
